Next Step

Thanks girls for the well wishes for DH.  He is doing well.  Thank goodness!

We have decided to seek a 3rd opinion on our situation.  We have two doctors on the list, Dr. Lev.ine in Chicago and Dr. in St. Louis.  Both are urologists who specialize in MFI.  Does anyone have any experience with either?  Any other suggestions or recommendations of urologists or RE's?  We are willing to travel.  (Okay, I re-read this to proof before publishing and this sounds like a classified ad!  LOL)

In the meantime, we received a post card this week to call urologist #2's office to schedule an appointment.  We assume for a post-surgery follow-up.  We have not called yet....I guess you could say, we are apprehensive about having that appointment.  I mean, we want to ask him some hard questions, but at the same time, he is the only doctor locally who was willing to give a try for DH.  Which we are still very interested in doing....if the repair does not help.

  1. Good luck, I hope eevrything works out well for you!

  2. Dr. Silbert is a pioneer in IVF.. Discovery Health used to do the show Baby Lab and it was all about Dr. Silber. Hopefully he will have very good information for you!

  3. It never hurts to get second opinions and I really hope that these two new doctors will shed some new light or at least approach the problem from a new perspective. Good luck!

  4. What were his sypmtoms/pain like for the first week after surgery?

I just had subinguinal varicocele (grade 2 or 3 on left side) repair on the 14th and am experiencing similar conerns; ie. the incision looks higher than maybe it should be, and am completely numb around the incision area. It also looks like the varicocele is already coming back. Needless to say I am pissed.

The surgeon was a general urologist. These guys don't do a ton of varicocelectomies to begin with but he made it sound like it was a walk in the park.

I went in today for follow up and asked a lot of questions regarding the surgeon's technique and what he did during surgery. After basically telling me that he cut the lymphatics (which are supposed to be preserved) along with the veins, I have no doubt that I now have a hydrocele forming (which may end up requiring another surgery to correct that)

The skill & experience of the surgeon plays a huge role in how this procedure generally turns out. At present, its looking like mine was totally unsuccessful. I will probably have to find a better surgeon and go through the whole mess all over again.

Please let me know how you make out with 2nd/3rd opinions & if you recommend doing the same-

    All the best to you

  5. Hope you have decided on someone for the 3rd opinion and are able to get that done soon. What a pain to want to keep ties with the other doctor for the Clomid! Ugh. Sometimes the answers just aren't easy. Thinking of you both as you navigate through this.
