We requested our 2008 statement from our clinic a few weeks ago for taxes. It was THE MOST CONFUSING document I have EVER seen! Now, I think they do that on purpose. It was not in any type of know, by date, service, payments vs. charges, etc.....notta, nothing.

So, as we tried to figure out how our payments were credited (loan $ vs. OOP $ vs. insurance $ for lap surgery) VS. clinic charges - we used the totals at the bottom - that are divided by responsible party charges, credits, balance. I figured we could handle that, wrong! DH insisted we meet with them in person to understand the bill because from what we could tell, we were overcharged about $900.

Well, that meeting was this morning. And guess what? According to their records, they did not overcharge us. HOWEVER, they did give our lender for the loan (Capi.tal Heal.thcare) a 5% kickback for "paying so quickly" - and (wait, it gets better!) guess who paid the 5% kickback??? We did!!!!!!!!!! WTF????????

C One basically took 5% of the total loan amount right off the top - and then sent the balance to our clinic. So, not only are we paying them interest (a significant amount I might add), they got an additional 5% of the total loan for "paying so quickly". DH and I are pissed!

We did not discuss it until we got to the parking lot because I don't think it really "sunk in" what she said.....but the more we talked, the more it made sense.

Has anyone heard of such a thing? Has anyone used C One?

The only thing we can think of is that the clinic might offer a 5% cash discount - however, IMO, they should be giving that to us as the customer, not the lender. It is our credit, our money, etc.

  1. OMG, that is soooo wrong of CapOne!!! Definitely pursue the issue with them and get your $$$ back. Good luck to you!

  2. OMG is right, that is totally horrible! So do you get that 5% back when you pay the loan back? I should hope so...that is just the most ridiculous thing. Do you think the BBB should know about that? I'm so sorry you have do deal with that mess, it's not fair at all. Keep us posted with how it turns out...

  3. Oh - this has me thinking...we used C One. I'll have to look into that a little more carefully. I've noticed quite a few posts these days about treatment bills...I guess we're all dealing with tax time and the pain of treatment is once again tossed up in our faces as we try to figure out bills. Not fun!

  4. That's terrible about C1 and the 5% and you're's your money and your credit. It is so wrong on so many levels and you're paying enough money to the clinic - seems that they lost their compassionate gene along the way. Maybe if there is a patient advocate at your clinic you can talk about it with them? That is just so wrong...

  5. Wow, that is just wrong!!! WTF!?! I would definitely be talking to both the clinic and C1 to figure out how this is "okay". I'm sorry, hun. Unreal....

  6. I got a C one loan, but they sent us the check, and then we got the discount for paying in full through the clinic. It is TOTALLY WRONG for c one to get the 5% off and then you guys had to pay it! I'd be so mad!!

I'm sorry, I hope you get them in line.

  7. I don't quite understand. Did the clinic pay C One the kickback and then charge you for the bonus to cap. 1? That is totally offensive.
